Grid-Connected Solar Streetlights Installed on Streets in Kyiv, Ukraine

Both integrated and split-type solar streetlights utilize high-efficiency solar panels, lithium batteries, controllers, and LED lamp beads. Integrated solar streetlights combine the solar panel, lithium battery, controller, and LED lamp beads into a single unit, making transportation and installation easier.

Split-type solar streetlights have an external lithium battery box, allowing for the use of higher-power solar panels and lithium batteries. For example, solar panels can be 200W, 300W, or 400W, and the external battery box allows for capacities of 100AH, 200AH, or even larger.

Solar streetlights with external lithium battery boxes are suitable for areas with less abundant sunlight, such as Northern European countries like Ukraine, Serbia, Hungary, or the United Kingdom, unlike countries along the equator in Africa.

Of course, solar streetlights with external lithium battery boxes can also be designed as grid-connected solar streetlights. In this case, the AC power grid is the primary power source, while solar power and batteries are used only as supplementary energy sources, operating only when the battery temperature is above +5°C. The battery capacity is designed to provide power for several hours, not for complete autonomous control and dimming functions, and is suitable for grid and AC power.

For example, our January 2026 case in Ukraine uses split-type solar streetlights with external lithium batteries as grid-connected streetlights on 12-meter high poles:

Application

• Street/road lighting

• Pole height: 10 to 12 meters

• Spacing between poles: approximately 40 meters

The main objective is to reduce grid electricity consumption compared to traditional LED streetlights powered solely by the grid, while ensuring stable and reliable lighting throughout the year.

Operating Logic (Key Requirements)

Daytime

• The lights are off.

• The solar panel charges the streetlight's battery.

• If the solar supply is insufficient (e.g., cloudy days, winter), the battery can be charged from the grid. Dusk/Night Activation

• Streetlights will automatically turn on:

• Controlled by a light sensor, or

• According to a set schedule.

Nighttime Operation Mode

• Streetlights initially operate on battery power, utilizing solar energy stored during the day.

• Target battery operating time: 6 to 8 hours per night.

• When the battery level drops to a low level, the streetlights will automatically switch to grid power.

• After switching to grid power, the lights will continue to operate from the grid until sunrise and will not switch back to battery power that night.

Morning Deactivation

• Streetlights will automatically turn off:

• Based on a light sensor or time setting.

• The daytime charging cycle restarts.

Adverse Weather Mode

• If there are several consecutive cloudy days and the battery is not sufficiently charged:

• At the beginning of the night, the streetlights will operate from the grid.

• In this case, solar energy is used only as a supplementary energy source, not the sole power source.

Charging from the Grid

• Charging the battery from the grid is permitted:

• During the day if solar power is insufficient;

• Charging can also be done at night.

• Charging at night using off-peak (nighttime) electricity rates is a good option, provided it does not significantly increase costs.

Winter Operation

• The streetlight must be suitable for winter operation in Ukraine.

• Please advise:

• Whether charging from the grid is permitted at sub-zero temperatures;

• Or whether charging is automatically limited or protected in low-temperature environments.

• Prioritizing grid power in very cold conditions is acceptable.

Project Priorities 1. Cost-effective solution 2. Lower energy consumption compared to standard LED streetlights using only grid power 3. Simple and reliable operating logic 4. Designed for the Ukrainian climate:

• Approximately 200 sunny days per year

• Significant seasonal temperature variations

Our Photovoltaic Panels
Each solar panel undergoes strict factory testing before shipment to ensure reliable charging performance.
Low-quality panels often use inferior materials for appearance only, resulting in poor real-world charging efficiency.

Our Battery System
We use large-capacity lithium iron phosphate batteries with built-in protection circuits for long service life and enhanced safety.
Many low-cost alternatives use recycled or second-hand batteries, which are unsafe and fail quickly.

Our LED Light Source
Equipped with Bridgelux 3030 LED chips, delivering significantly higher luminous efficiency than ordinary light sources.
Inferior lights often concentrate LEDs too densely, causing overheating and shortened lifespan.

For contractors like Mr. Muhammad, this model reduced labor costs, minimized maintenance expenses, and increased project profit margins, while providing reliable lighting for local communities.
