Description
A mains street light consists of a housing, aluminum base plate, LED lamp beads, a driver, and wiring. The housing is a single-piece die-cast aluminum alloy, offering excellent heat dissipation, a beautiful appearance, and durability. The LED light source is the core of the entire street light's color temperature and brightness, so the LED chip is crucial to its quality. The LED chip's filament can be iron, copper, alloy, or gold, with copper being the most commonly used. The aluminum base plate for the LED lamp beads uses a 2mm diameter filament. This filament, combined with the housing and thermally conductive silicone paste, dissipates heat effectively
The housing also comes in a variety of materials, with die-cast aluminum being a common heat dissipation material. However, housing thickness and weight vary, and many people use these factors to assess street light quality.
The driver is also a core component of a street light, powering the LEDs. Two options are available: isolated and non-isolated.
As a core urban lighting system, the performance and durability of mains-powered LED street lights depend on the synergistic effect of five key components. From the housing to the driver, the material and design of each component directly impact the street light's lifespan and lighting performance. The following will analyze each of these key characteristics. I. Core Components and Features
The complete structure of a streetlight consists of five modules: housing, aluminum base plate, LEDs, driver, and wiring. Each component has a clear division of labor and is interconnected, ensuring stable operation.
(I) Housing: Dual Serving as Protection and Heat Dissipation
The housing, serving as the streetlight's "protective layer," is manufactured using a one-step die-casting process using aluminum alloy. This process provides three core advantages: First, excellent heat dissipation, quickly dissipating heat generated by internal components and preventing component damage caused by high temperatures; second, a refined and aesthetically pleasing appearance that can adapt to different urban road landscapes; and third, a sturdy and durable structure that can withstand environmental damage such as wind, rain, and impact.
In actual selection and quality assessment, housing thickness and weight are important considerations. Although die-cast aluminum is the mainstream heat dissipation material, housing parameters vary from product to product. Generally, thicker and heavier housings offer advantages in structural stability and heat dissipation capacity, and are generally considered to be a sign of higher quality. Furthermore, diverse housing designs can meet the installation requirements of various scenarios, balancing practicality and aesthetics. (2) Aluminum Base Plate: The Key Bridge for Heat Transfer
The aluminum base plate serves as the "thermal link" connecting the LED lamp bead to the housing, uniformly adopting a 2mm thickness. Its core function is to efficiently transfer the heat generated by the LED lamp bead to the housing. The key to achieving this lies in the assembly process—the aluminum base plate must be tightly fitted to the housing through a thermally conductive silicone paste. The thermally conductive silicone paste fills the tiny gaps between the two, eliminating the air insulation layer, allowing heat to be quickly transferred to the housing and dissipated into the air, thereby ensuring that the LED lamp bead operates at an optimal temperature and extending its lifespan.
LED Lamp Bead: The Core Source of Lighting Quality
LED lamp beads are the core component that determines the color temperature and brightness of street lights, and their quality ultimately depends on the chip within them. The material of the chip's filament directly affects its luminous efficiency and stability. Currently, the mainstream filament materials on the market are categorized into four types: iron wire, copper wire, alloy wire, and gold wire. Copper wire is the most widely used due to its excellent conductivity, stability, and cost advantages. High-quality chips paired with appropriate filament materials ensure uniform streetlight illumination, a suitable color temperature, and slow brightness decay after long-term use.
Power Supply: The Power Core of Stable Power
The power supply is the "heart" that provides continuous and stable power to LED lamps. Its performance is directly related to the operational stability of streetlights. Depending on the circuit design, power supply options are mainly divided into two types:
Isolated: This approach uses electromagnetic induction and other methods to achieve electrical isolation between the input and output circuits. This provides increased safety, effectively preventing risks such as leakage, and is suitable for locations with high safety requirements.
Non-isolated: This approach lacks electrical isolation between the input and output circuits. While relatively simple in structure and cost-effective, it is slightly less secure than isolated solutions and should be selected based on the application scenario.
Regardless of the solution, the voltage and current regulation of the power supply are key indicators. A high-quality power supply can withstand grid voltage fluctuations and provide a stable current to the LED lamps, preventing damage to the lamps or abnormal lighting caused by voltage instability. (V) Wires and Cables: The Essential Guarantee of Power Transmission
While wires and cables, as the carriers of power transmission, do not directly determine lighting quality, they are essential for ensuring the proper operation of streetlights. Their materials must possess excellent conductivity and insulation, withstand the complex outdoor environment, and withstand the effects of moisture and aging. This ensures stable power transmission from the power supply system to the driver and LEDs, preventing failures caused by wiring problems.
The quality of streetlights can be evaluated based on three core dimensions: heat dissipation, which is determined by the housing material and thickness, as well as the aluminum substrate assembly process; lighting performance, which depends on the quality of the LED chip and the material of the filament; and operational stability, which hinges on the driver's solution and performance parameters. By understanding these three dimensions, one can accurately assess the overall quality of a streetlight.
